Microsoft will rebrand its Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) enterprise identity service as Microsoft Entra ID by the end of the year. Azure AD offers various security features, such as single sign-on and multifactor authentication, to defend against cybersecurity attacks.
The name change will not affect the service’s capabilities, and existing deployments, configurations, and integrations will continue to function as before.
Alongside the rebranding, Microsoft has introduced two new services, Entra Internet Access and Entra Private Access, in public preview. Entra Internet Access is an identity-centric Secure Web Gateway that protects access to internet, SaaS, and Microsoft 365 apps and resources.
Entra Private Access, on the other hand, provides VPN-like functionality for secure remote access to internal corporate resources.
Microsoft emphasizes its commitment to creating a more secure world, making life challenging for threat actors and easier for administrators and users. The company aims to expand Microsoft Entra, ensuring broad coverage and offering a flexible and agile model where individuals, organizations, applications, and even connected devices can confidently make real-time access decisions.
Interested users can sign up for a preview of Entra Internet Access and Entra Private Access to experience their upcoming capabilities before their official release later this year.
