Traverse City Area Public Schools Superintendent, John R. VanWagoner II, announced a network disruption affecting certain systems via phone calls and emails on Saturday evening. Immediate action was taken to disconnect access to the network, engage a specialized cybersecurity firm, and commence a comprehensive investigation.
Classes at TCAPS in Michigan were canceled for Monday, April 1st, with the possibility of extending the cancellation to Tuesday the 2nd. The school intends to provide further updates on the situation’s development by Sunday night or Monday morning.
Staff members were instructed to refrain from using any TCAPS systems until further notice. Once systems are back online, staff will be asked to reset passwords and enable multi-factor authentication.
Crucial network upgrades are planned for Monday or Tuesday, with the potential need for staff to bring laptops on-site for manual upgrades. VanWagoner emphasized the importance of safeguarding system integrity and pledged additional measures to enhance security moving forward.
