Michigan Public Schools Hit by Cyberattack

In Rockford, Michigan, a ransomware assault hit Rockford Public Schools, paralyzing its phone and email networks. Despite the disruption, classes continued without interruption. Superintendent Steve Matthews assured parents of building security and distributed emergency phones throughout the district to ensure communication.

As a precautionary measure, all Wi-Fi connections were severed to prevent further infiltration into student and district data. While the attack likely originated overseas, Matthews remained steadfast in affirming student safety and urged normalcy in classroom activities. Nonetheless, some parents, including Karla Marsman, opted to retrieve their children early due to concerns arising from the cyber breach.

The FBI has initiated a thorough investigation into the ransomware assault, heightening the urgency to rectify the breach and fortify defenses against potential future attacks.
