Radio and Tele Top, prominent Swiss broadcasters, are grappling with the fallout of an encryption Trojan affecting their systems. Despite the disruptions, the broadcasters managed to maintain “an almost normal program” with the help of their technical team and external experts. The attack, which began on Tuesday afternoon, caused irregularities in online, radio, and television services, prompting some programs to be repeated.
The Trojan initially targeted and encrypted several servers, leading to significant operational challenges for Radio and Tele Top. Program director Gjusi Brändli described the attack as massive, highlighting the severity of the situation. Additionally, the broadcasters received blackmail threats, heightening concerns about the security breach and its potential implications.
Efforts to mitigate the impact of the attack are underway, with the technical department collaborating with external specialists to identify and address the root cause. Despite the challenges, the broadcasters express gratitude for the dedication and resilience of their team, acknowledging the collective effort to navigate through this crisis. As investigations continue and data restoration plans are put in place, the incident underscores the persistent threat of cyberattacks faced by media organizations worldwide.
