Kash Patel, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI, has reportedly been targeted in a cyberattack attributed to Iranian hackers. According to sources familiar with the situation, the hack involved the compromise of some of Patel’s communications. This incident marks the latest in a series of cyberattacks on individuals closely connected to the Trump administration. Iranian hackers have been known to focus on those with ties to Trump, as evidenced by previous breaches involving other prominent figures.
Patel, who served as the chief of staff to the U.S. Department of Defense, has been a vocal critic of the Iranian regime and was instrumental in shaping the first Trump administration’s policies towards Iran. His efforts against the Iranian regime have made him a key target in ongoing cyberespionage campaigns. The FBI, which Patel is set to lead if confirmed, has informed him of the breach, underscoring the seriousness of the threat.
This attack on Patel comes on the heels of a similar incident involving Todd Blanche, one of Trump’s lead attorneys. Blanche’s cellphone was reportedly tapped by Chinese hackers, and other Trump associates have been subjected to similar breaches. In August, attorney Lindsey Halligan also fell victim to an Iranian hacking effort, and Donald Trump Jr. was notified by the FBI that he had been a prime target of Iranian cyberattacks. These incidents indicate a growing trend of foreign adversaries targeting members of Trump’s inner circle.
Despite the increasing cyber threats, the Trump team remains focused on advancing its policies and protecting U.S. interests. Spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer emphasized Patel’s dedication to defending the country from foreign adversaries. He reiterated Patel’s commitment to executing Trump’s strategies to safeguard America from international threats. However, these continuing cyberattacks underscore the need for heightened vigilance and cybersecurity measures, especially for individuals in high-profile positions.
