Luxembourg City council announced that their website fell victim to a cyber attack, leading to its temporary shutdown. The incident coincided with the hosting of EU foreign ministers and followed a similar attack on the European Investment Bank a week prior. The council tweeted about the attack, stating their active efforts to restore website access, while an anonymous message attributed the attack to the “CyberTriad Hack team,” citing geopolitical concerns regarding international conflict.
Despite the claim of responsibility by the CyberTriad Hack team, the origin of the message and the nature of the group remain unverified. The Luxembourg Times, which received the anonymous message, lacked the means to authenticate its source. Additionally, the Luxembourg City council did not provide further comments on the matter.
This cyber attack adds to a series of similar incidents targeting European institutions, including last week’s temporary shutdown of the European Investment Bank’s website. Concerns over cybersecurity in Luxembourg are further highlighted by a previous hack on Encevo, the main energy supplier, which resulted in the publication of client data on the dark web.
