Local 1964 Reports Breach Impacting Members

New Jersey’s Local 1964, comprising the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Health & Insurance Fund and the ILA Retirement Fund, has recently reported a significant data security incident affecting its members. On May 28, 2024, the organization detected an encryption event that disrupted its network operations. This prompted an immediate investigation, led by third-party cybersecurity specialists, which uncovered unauthorized access to certain files between March 27, 2024, and May 27, 2024.

Following a detailed review completed on September 3, 2024, Local 1964 determined that sensitive personal information may have been compromised. The affected data includes names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health information, health insurance details, and financial account numbers. Despite finding no evidence of misuse of this information to date, Local 1964 has taken proactive measures by informing impacted individuals through written notifications and providing recommendations on how to protect their personal information.

In response to the breach, Local 1964 has implemented additional security measures to fortify its network and prevent future incidents. The organization has also notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to ensure a thorough investigation and to assist in addressing the breach’s broader implications. These steps reflect Local 1964’s commitment to enhancing its cybersecurity posture and protecting its members’ data.

This incident highlights the growing need for robust data protection measures across all sectors. Local 1964 continues to work diligently to manage the fallout from this breach and improve its security infrastructure. As the situation evolves, the organization remains dedicated to supporting its members and ensuring the integrity of their personal information.
