Lincoln Financial Data Breach

Lincoln recently discovered that on May 3, 2024, a document containing personal information was inadvertently emailed to a retirement plan participant who had no association with the intended recipients. The document included sensitive details such as names, addresses, and Social Security numbers. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Lincoln promptly notified their Corporate Privacy Office and began taking steps to address the issue and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Despite having no indication that the compromised information has been misused, Lincoln is taking proactive measures to protect the affected individuals. To help detect any potential misuse of the data, Lincoln is offering a complimentary one-year membership in the Experian® IdentityWorksSM credit monitoring service. This service will provide alerts and assist individuals in monitoring their credit for any unusual activity.

Lincoln is committed to ensuring the privacy and security of personal information and is working diligently to rectify this incident. They have provided detailed instructions for enrolling in the credit monitoring service, emphasizing that the enrollment code will be valid for 60 days from the date of the notification letter. Lincoln encourages affected individuals to take advantage of this service and to remain vigilant in reviewing their account statements and credit reports regularly.

Moving forward, Lincoln aims to reinforce their data protection protocols to prevent similar breaches. They stress the importance of staying alert to any suspicious activity and offer continued support to those impacted by the breach. Through these actions, Lincoln demonstrates its dedication to maintaining the trust and confidence of its clients in safeguarding their personal information.
