Law Firm Cyberattack Affects Personal Data

The Law Office of Manning, Zimmerman & Oliveira, PLLC, based in Manchester, New Hampshire, recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to personal information. On December 21, 2023, suspicious activity was detected within the firm’s email system, prompting immediate security measures and an investigation by a specialized cybersecurity firm. The breach occurred between November 18 and December 20, 2023, during which an unauthorized actor accessed an employee’s email account.

The review of the compromised email account revealed that personal information, including names and Social Security numbers, may have been exposed. Although there is no evidence of fraudulent use of the data so far, the firm took extensive precautions to secure its systems and prevent future incidents. This included implementing two-factor authentication and a comprehensive review of the affected email accounts.

In response to the breach, the firm has provided affected individuals with access to free credit monitoring services through a third-party provider. These services offer alerts and credit monitoring for twelve months to help individuals monitor changes to their credit files and safeguard against potential misuse. The firm has also enhanced its data security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

To protect themselves, individuals are advised to remain vigilant by reviewing their account statements and credit reports for any suspicious activity. The firm encourages those affected to contact their financial institutions and major credit bureaus to place fraud alerts if needed. Additional information on protecting personal data and enrolling in the provided credit monitoring services is available through the firm’s assistance resources.
