Kannact Inc. Reports Major Data Breach

Kannact Inc., a software company headquartered in Albany, Oregon, has recently reported a significant data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (HHS-OCR) on June 20, 2023. This breach resulted in unauthorized access to confidential consumer data, including sensitive personal and health information such as names, Social Security Numbers, addresses, and protected health information. Following the breach, Kannact promptly initiated an investigation, confirming that files containing data of over 103,000 consumers were accessed by unauthorized parties.

The breach, which occurred on March 13, 2023, prompted Kannact to take immediate action to secure its IT network and engage a third-party data security firm to conduct a comprehensive investigation. As a result of this investigation, Kannact discovered that one or more unauthorized parties had accessed certain files containing confidential consumer information. This breach underscores the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures and highlights the ongoing threat posed by malicious actors targeting sensitive data across industries.

In response to the breach, Kannact has begun the process of notifying affected individuals and providing them with relevant information and resources. Additionally, the company has implemented measures to enhance data security and prevent future breaches. Despite the breach’s significant impact, Kannact remains committed to transparency and accountability, striving to safeguard consumer data and maintain trust with its clients and stakeholders. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ever-present need for organizations to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting sensitive information from cyber threats.
