JTaylor & Associates, LLC, an accounting firm based in Fort Worth, Texas, disclosed a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights on September 16, 2024. The breach involved unauthorized access to sensitive information through a hacking incident targeting an email server. JTaylor has not clarified whether the compromised server belonged to them or one of their vendors. Following the breach, the firm began reviewing affected files to identify the extent of the incident and the individuals impacted.

The investigation determined that sensitive data belonging to certain individuals was accessible to an unauthorized party. Details about the compromised information and the exact scope of the breach are yet to be fully disclosed. JTaylor has committed to notifying affected individuals through personalized letters, which will outline the specific data compromised. These notifications are part of the firm’s compliance and mitigation efforts in response to the breach.

While the firm is addressing the issue, it has emphasized its commitment to protecting the privacy of client data. The breach has raised concerns about the vulnerability of email servers and the potential risks associated with storing sensitive information in digital formats. JTaylor’s proactive steps include a review of its existing security policies and protocols to strengthen its defenses.
