Jones and Beach Investigates Email Breach

On January 23, 2024, Jones & Beach discovered suspicious activity involving an employee’s email account. They promptly launched an investigation and hired third-party forensic specialists to understand the nature and scope of the breach. The investigation revealed unauthorized access on December 27, 2023, and from January 12, 2024, to January 23, 2024. A thorough review of the compromised email account, completed by March 29, 2024, uncovered that sensitive information, including names and Social Security numbers of Maine residents, had been accessed.

Upon discovering the breach, Jones & Beach took immediate action to respond to and investigate the incident. They assessed the security of their systems and worked to identify potentially affected individuals. To enhance their security measures, they are implementing additional safeguards and providing employees with further training. This proactive approach aims to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure the safety of their clients’ information.

In response to the breach, Jones & Beach is offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services through Kroll to those whose personal information may have been compromised. They are also providing affected individuals with detailed guidance on how to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud. This includes information on placing fraud alerts and security freezes on credit files, obtaining free credit reports, and monitoring for suspicious activity.

Jones & Beach has also notified relevant state regulators about the incident, demonstrating their commitment to transparency and regulatory compliance. They are encouraging affected individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing account statements and credit reports. By taking these comprehensive steps, Jones & Beach aims to support those impacted by the breach and strengthen their data security practices moving forward.
