Jackson Medical Center experienced a cyberattack in February that potentially compromised patient information. The incident, which occurred between February 17 and February 22, 2024, disrupted some IT systems. Following the attack, the medical center secured its systems, initiated an investigation with third-party forensic experts, and notified law enforcement. By March 8, the investigation revealed that an unauthorized party accessed and removed certain files containing patient information.
The affected information varied for each patient but included names and Social Security numbers. In some cases, it also involved contact information, dates of birth, driver’s license or state identification numbers, medical treatment and diagnosis details, and health insurance information. On April 5, 2024, Jackson Medical Center began mailing notification letters to the affected patients.
Patients are advised to carefully review their healthcare and insurance statements for any unauthorized services and to contact the provider or insurer immediately if discrepancies are found. Jackson Medical Center is offering complimentary identity monitoring services to those whose Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or state identification numbers were compromised.
To prevent future incidents, Jackson Medical Center has implemented additional safeguards and technical security measures to better protect and monitor its systems. These steps are aimed at enhancing the overall security posture of the organization and mitigating the risk of similar cyberattacks in the future.
