Ivanti has alerted customers to a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in its Cloud Services Appliance (CSA) solution. The flaw, identified as CVE-2024-11639, was uncovered by CrowdStrike’s Advanced Research Team and poses a significant security risk. It allows remote attackers to gain administrative privileges on vulnerable appliances running CSA version 5.0.2 or earlier. Exploitation does not require authentication or user interaction, as attackers can bypass authentication mechanisms through an alternate path or channel. Ivanti strongly recommends upgrading to CSA 5.0.3, with detailed guidance available in its support documentation.
This vulnerability is the latest in a series of critical flaws affecting Ivanti’s CSA product. Over recent months, five other significant vulnerabilities have been addressed, including CVE-2024-8190 (remote code execution) and CVE-2024-8963 (admin authentication bypass), both of which were actively exploited in attacks as of September. Additional vulnerabilities patched in October—CVE-2024-9379, CVE-2024-9380, and CVE-2024-9381—were exploited in chained attacks to bypass security restrictions and execute arbitrary code. While there is currently no evidence of active exploitation of CVE-2024-11639, the pattern of targeted attacks underscores the urgency of applying updates.
In conjunction with the CSA patch, Ivanti addressed other vulnerabilities across its product line, including Desktop and Server Management (DSM), Connect Secure and Policy Secure, Sentry, and Patch SDK. These updates resolve medium, high, and critical severity flaws, although none appear to have been exploited in the wild. Ivanti continues to enhance its internal testing and scanning processes to identify vulnerabilities earlier and release patches more swiftly. The company is also strengthening its responsible disclosure practices to better protect customers in a rapidly evolving threat landscape.
With its products deployed by over 40,000 organizations worldwide, Ivanti remains a high-value target for attackers seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in IT asset management and security solutions. Earlier this year, Ivanti faced a wave of zero-day exploits targeting its VPN appliances and other critical gateways. This latest vulnerability highlights the persistent challenges organizations face in securing enterprise systems and underscores the importance of timely patching and proactive cybersecurity measures.
