A group of Indian hackers orchestrated a coordinated cyber attack on 25 public and private institutions within Bangladesh, resulting in data breaches. Notable entities like the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh and the Directorate General of Health Services had their sensitive information compromised. In anticipation of the attack, Bangladesh had been on high alert, but despite precautionary measures, multiple government and private entities experienced significant data breaches.
The breach extended to various sectors, with the official website of the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh being compromised. This particular breach exposed details of approximately 10,000 investors and investment applicants.
Moreover, Indian hackers claimed to have accessed around 40,000 records from the Bangladesh Bank and leaked information from the land ministry’s land tax portal. Several other institutions also suffered from this cyber breach, including police units, ticketing platforms, and banking websites.
In response to the breach, the Bangladeshi cybersecurity organization, Cyber71, is taking action by formulating a counter-attack strategy against the assault on 17 government websites. Cyber71 has conveyed their intention to launch a retaliatory counter-attack, demonstrating their determination to engage in a cyber conflict if the adversarial actions persist.
This escalation highlights the growing complexity of cybersecurity challenges and the evolving landscape of international cyber conflicts.
