Haverford Township Alerts on Data Breach

Pennsylvania‘s Haverford Township residents recently received alarming news of a security breach that may have compromised their personal information. The breach, detected by the township’s IT Department on April 17, 2023, raised concerns over unauthorized access to the township network, potentially exposing sensitive data of residents and visitors.

Township Manager Dave Burman confirmed the authenticity of the notification letters and assured residents that immediate action was taken to address the breach. While the exact cause of the breach remains undisclosed, efforts were made to secure the network and engage external cybersecurity experts to assess the situation.

The scope of data exposure is extensive, including personal details such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account information, and medical records. Despite the township’s proactive response, residents expressed frustration over the delay in notification, which occurred more than a year after the breach was discovered.

Burman defended the timing of the notification, citing advice from security consultants to ensure a thorough analysis before informing potentially impacted individuals. Nevertheless, residents are urged to take precautionary measures, including placing fraud alerts and considering credit freezes, to mitigate the risk of identity theft or financial fraud.

As the township continues to address the aftermath of the breach, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and follow the provided instructions to safeguard their personal information.
