Haus des Stiftens Faces Cybersecurity Breach

The Haus des Stiftens in Germany experienced a cyberattack involving ransomware between September 16 and 21, 2024, resulting in unauthorized access, encryption, and exfiltration of data from its servers. Upon investigation, it was determined that personal data was significantly affected. Those impacted have been notified, and efforts are ongoing to assess the full scope of the breach and its implications.

Immediately after discovering the attack on September 21, 2024, the organization took swift action by shutting down IT systems and enlisting external forensic experts to secure and restore its systems. Authorities were promptly informed, and collaboration with them continues. The Haus des Stiftens remains committed to restoring system security and ensuring operational integrity while enhancing existing cybersecurity measures.

The IT systems have been restored, and investigations into the breach are ongoing. The organization has completed the identification of affected data and initiated communication with the impacted individuals. Efforts are being made to tighten security protocols and prevent future breaches while cooperating fully with investigative authorities.

To mitigate potential risks, the organization advises vigilance against fraudulent communications that may exploit the incident. Users are encouraged to update access credentials to third-party systems if sensitive data linked to those systems could have been stored on Haus des Stiftens’ servers. Additional precautions around financial transactions and adherence to updated data protection guidelines are recommended.
