Hacker group SiegedSec has claimed responsibility for a significant cyberattack on Bezeq, Israel’s largest telecommunications company. The breach involved the leak of sensitive information from nearly 50,000 Bezeq customers.
The group, known for its humorous slogans and audacious language, made the breach announcement on Halloween, raising concerns about the state of online security on such a significant date. In their announcement, SiegedSec declared the attack as the “HALLOWEEN HACK,” emphasizing its significance. They claimed to have successfully infiltrated Bezeq’s customer database, exposing the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of thousands of individuals.
However, the breach went beyond customer data, as the group asserted that they gained access to the portal overseeing devices across Israel, effectively causing disruptions. This not only affected local infrastructure but also devices linked to the embassies of Hungary, Finland, and the United States in Israel. As a final twist to their Halloween hack, SiegedSec used Bezeq’s campaign management portal to send a mischievous email to Bezeq customers, leaving them bewildered and concerned.
While the group shared a link to their exploit as evidence of the cyberattack, attempts to verify the breach were hindered as the SiegedSec website displayed a “took too long to respond” error. This error, while indicative of server or network disruptions, is not direct proof of a cyberattack. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges in cybersecurity and the need for robust defenses against such threats.
