The Economic Development Institute of Lower Austria (WIFO) confronted a hacking attack between January 25 and 26, targeting its training servers. Despite the breach, WIFI assured that client and trainer data remained untouched. Michaela Forlaufer, Institute Director, confirmed that the affected servers were quickly reinstalled, preventing any compromise to training operations.
Although reports surfaced suggesting the involvement of the Russian-speaking international hacking group Lockbit, Bernhard Trostel, clarified that they have not been in direct contact with the attackers. Furthermore, there were no ransom demands associated with the incident. WIFO promptly reported the attack to the police and notified the Data Protection Authority, maintaining ongoing collaboration with both entities to address the situation.
