Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, encountered a global outage lasting slightly over an hour. Downdetector.com, a service monitoring outages, reported access issues for more than 47,000 users in the United States, along with some users in the UK and Asia.
During the outage, users attempting to view posts on the platform were greeted with a message stating, “Welcome to X!” The social media giant, now owned by Elon Musk after his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter last year, has not yet provided an official comment on the incident. The disruption triggered the hashtag #TwitterDown, which quickly started trending as users around the world experienced difficulties accessing the platform. Despite the widespread impact, the outage was relatively short-lived, lasting just over an hour.
Following the outage, users were able to resume normal activities on the platform. Elon Musk’s ownership of X has brought increased attention to the platform, and this outage adds to the challenges and scrutiny faced by the social media giant in maintaining uninterrupted services for its vast user base.
