German Town Hall Closed Due to Cyberattack

Aschaffenburg’s town hall and branch offices are temporarily closed following a targeted hacker attack that compromised the city’s administrative systems. The attack, which was discovered on the morning of November 14, involved suspicious access to login accounts of city administration employees. In response, all IT systems were taken offline to prevent further damage and ensure the security of sensitive information. The city is currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the extent of the breach and assess whether any critical data has been compromised.

Due to the attack, city employees are unable to access key applications or data necessary for daily operations. As a result, the town hall and its branch offices will remain closed for two consecutive days, Thursday and Friday, November 15. The closure affects communication channels as well, with both phone and email services unavailable during this period. The city administration is working diligently to restore access to its systems and resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

While the closure impacts administrative services, key community events will continue as planned. The cultural office’s events, the inclusive career fair, and the family congress are scheduled to take place without disruption. These events, which are essential for community engagement, will provide residents with opportunities for cultural enrichment, career development, and family-oriented activities. The city has reassured the public that these programs will not be affected by the cyberattack.

The city administration has emphasized its commitment to restoring normal operations and strengthening cybersecurity measures to prevent future incidents. Officials are also working closely with law enforcement and cybersecurity experts to fully understand the scope of the attack and mitigate potential risks. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to remain patient as the investigation continues, and the city pledges to provide regular updates on the situation.
