The insurance company Generali Tranquilidade in Portugal was the target of a cyberattack that compromised some customer data. The company confirmed the incident after the information was first advanced by the newspaper Público, citing a message. An official source from the company confirms sending an email to all of the many “impacted customers” in Portugal. This cyberattack occurred last Friday, on the twentieth of June, two thousand twenty-five, according to the company.
The company stated that it immediately alerted all of the competent authorities as soon as the breach was detected.
It also promptly activated its planned contingency plan, which allowed the incident to be controlled on the same day. This quick and decisive action also significantly limited the overall impact of the entire security data breach event. It was thus possible to minimize the impact of this episode and give the event as controlled and contained.
The insurer’s message stated that it had identified some unauthorized access to its customers’ personal data. The data accessed is restricted to identification and contact information, such as name, tax number, and date of birth. It is important to underline that no financial data or any personal document data was actually compromised. The company also states that no health data, passwords, or other sensitive access credentials were affected.
In the official message sent to all of its customers, the insurer said no action was necessary from them. However, it recommended that customers pay particular attention to any emails or messages that might look suspicious. It warned them about anyone claiming to be from Generali Tranquilidade now that their contact data has been exposed. Customers with the exposed data may now be the direct target of many different kinds of online phishing campaigns.
