Transportation carrier GCA, known as Groupe Charles André, disclosed to its customers that it fell victim to a cyberattack during the night of February 17 to 18. As a precautionary measure, GCA decided to suspend internet access outside its systems to conduct a comprehensive diagnosis and ensure a secure restart.
The company activated a crisis unit involving relevant officials, informed competent authorities, and initiated reporting and complaint procedures. Currently, usual communication channels such as email addresses, landline phones, and API connections remain non-functional, indicating the severity of the attack’s impact on GCA’s operations.
While GCA stated it has no evidence of a data breach at this stage, it is collaborating with external specialists and the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) to investigate the incident and ensure adequate IT security. Concerns about ransomware involvement persist, yet specific details regarding the nature of the cyberattack remain undisclosed, pending further inquiry and analysis.
This cyberattack is not GCA’s first encounter with such incidents, with a previous ransomware attack occurring almost three years ago. The recurrence highlights the vulnerability of the transportation and logistics sector to cyber threats, echoing similar attacks on other industry players in France and underscoring the imperative for robust cybersecurity measures across the sector.
