Frontier Faces Lawsuit Over Data Breach

Jennifer Myers has initiated a class action lawsuit against Frontier Communications, alleging that the company failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures, leading to a significant data breach earlier this year. The breach, which occurred around March 2024, affected over 2 million consumers by exposing their personally identifiable information. Myers claims that Frontier’s negligence allowed this breach to happen and put affected individuals at high risk of fraud and identity theft.

The lawsuit, filed in Texas federal court, accuses Frontier of not taking reasonable steps to secure their data systems against unauthorized intrusions. Myers argues that the company’s failure to maintain robust cybersecurity protocols was willful and reckless, thereby disregarding the rights of its customers. The legal action seeks to hold Frontier accountable for not only the breach but also the resulting harm to consumers.

Myers’ class action demands various forms of relief, including actual, nominal, statutory, consequential, and punitive damages. She also requests declaratory and injunctive relief to ensure that Frontier improves its data protection practices moving forward. The lawsuit highlights the increasing concern over data security and the responsibilities of companies to safeguard consumer information.

This legal action against Frontier Communications is part of a broader trend, with several other companies facing similar lawsuits for data breaches. For instance, AT&T was recently hit with multiple class actions following a massive leak of information affecting over 70 million customers. These cases underscore the critical need for companies to prioritize robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data.
