Ford Motors Investigates Alleged Data Breach

Ford Motor Company is currently investigating a potential data breach after hackers, allegedly linked to the notorious hacker group IntelBroker, claimed to have stolen and leaked an internal database containing sensitive customer information. The breach, which is said to have occurred in November 2024, has raised significant concerns over the security of Ford’s customer data, especially considering the potential consequences for affected individuals. The hackers, using the alias “EnergyWeaponUser,” reportedly exfiltrated a database that includes approximately 44,000 customer records.

The leaked data allegedly contains sensitive personal information, including names, physical addresses, country codes, customer type codes, and details of purchased products. Ransom-DB researchers who examined the leaked information noted that it includes not only basic identification and location details but also account codes, sales types, and timestamps of the last updates. The compromised data appears to involve customers from various countries, including the United States, China, Spain, and Zimbabwe, indicating the breach’s global reach.

Ford has acknowledged the allegations of the data breach and confirmed that an investigation is actively underway. A spokesperson for the company stated that they are thoroughly examining the situation but have not yet confirmed or denied the authenticity of the hackers’ claims. While the company works to ascertain the extent of the breach, the implications for the affected customers could be severe, including increased risks of identity theft, phishing attacks, and other malicious cyber activities.

This alleged breach underscores the growing concerns about cybersecurity threats targeting major corporations. It follows a recent spate of high-profile cyberattacks, including an incident earlier this year where Australian company Eagers Automotive, which owns Ford dealerships, experienced a cyberattack that halted trading. As Ford continues its investigation, customers are being urged to stay vigilant and monitor their accounts for any signs of suspicious activity. If the breach is confirmed, it could have long-lasting effects on Ford’s reputation and the trust customers place in the company’s ability to safeguard their personal information.
