First Commonwealth Credit Union Breached

On August 2, 2024, First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union, located in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, disclosed a significant data security incident involving unauthorized access to the personal information of certain current and former members. The breach, which was initially detected on June 27, 2024, resulted in the exposure of sensitive data including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and account numbers. Following the discovery, First Commonwealth acted swiftly to contain the breach and initiated an investigation with the help of independent cybersecurity experts. The incident was found to have occurred on or around June 26, 2024, and the credit union has since worked to notify affected individuals.

Despite the proactive steps taken to inform those impacted, First Commonwealth faced challenges in reaching all individuals due to incomplete mailing addresses. Consequently, this public notice is being issued to ensure that those who could not be contacted directly are made aware of the incident. The credit union has established a toll-free call center to provide support and answer any questions related to the breach. Members are encouraged to utilize this resource for assistance, and to review their account statements for any unusual activity.

First Commonwealth emphasizes that there is currently no evidence suggesting that the compromised information has been misused. Nevertheless, the credit union is taking comprehensive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. This includes enhancing security protocols and providing members with information on how to safeguard their personal data. Affected individuals are advised to monitor their credit reports, request free copies from major credit reporting agencies, and consider placing fraud alerts or security freezes to protect against potential identity theft.

For further assistance, members can contact the dedicated call center at 1-888-461-3349, or visit the provided website for enrollment support. First Commonwealth remains committed to the privacy and security of its members’ information and deeply regrets any inconvenience this incident may have caused. The credit union continues to work diligently to restore confidence and ensure robust measures are in place to protect against future breaches.
