FALP Oncology Institute Hit by Ransomware

The FALP Oncology Institute in Chile is currently responding to a ransomware attack that has disrupted several of its key services. The attack, which was detected recently, has rendered the institute’s website, customer portal (My FALP), and appointment booking system unavailable. The breach has caused significant operational challenges, and the institute is working quickly to address the issue and mitigate any further damage to its infrastructure.

In an internal statement, FALP urged its users to take immediate action if they suspect their devices have been compromised. The institute recommended disconnecting any affected equipment from the network by either removing the connection cable or disconnecting from the Wi-Fi if an “inc-readme.txt” file is found on their system. This step is intended to prevent the spread of the ransomware and protect other devices from potential compromise.

The IT team at FALP, alongside external security experts, is actively working to contain the attack and prevent additional systems from being affected. The organization’s priority is to secure its operations and restore access to the affected services as soon as possible. While the situation is ongoing, the institute is committed to ensuring that patient care and other critical services are not further disrupted.

FALP’s response to this ransomware attack highlights the growing vulnerability of healthcare institutions to cyber threats. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in protecting sensitive patient data and ensuring the continuity of healthcare services. As FALP continues its recovery efforts, the broader healthcare sector must take heed of this incident to strengthen their defenses against similar attacks in the future.
