F5, the application delivery and security company, has appointed Samir Sherif as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In his new role, Sherif will lead the cybersecurity strategy and security culture at F5, overseeing standards and programs for the company’s products and services. With a career spanning over two decades at Citigroup, including as Global Head of Application Security, Sherif brings extensive experience to the position. He takes over the CISO role from Gail Coury, who is set to retire on March 1 after leading F5’s enterprise security efforts for the past three years.

Samir Sherif’s background includes previous roles as CISO at Absolute Software (acquired by Crosspoint Capital in 2023) and Imperva (now owned by Thales). His appointment comes as F5 aims to strengthen its enterprise cybersecurity initiatives. Sherif’s leadership will play a crucial role in shaping F5’s cybersecurity standards and programs, ensuring the security of the company’s products and services. Gail Coury, the outgoing CISO, has contributed to F5’s security efforts over the past three years and will retire on March 1, passing the baton to Sherif.

As the newly appointed CISO, Samir Sherif will play a pivotal role in driving F5’s cybersecurity initiatives, aligning strategies, and fostering a robust security culture within the organization. With a background in leading security efforts at various companies, including Citigroup, Absolute Software, and Imperva, Sherif brings a wealth of experience to the role. His expertise will be crucial in navigating the evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats and ensuring F5’s products and services adhere to high-security standards.
