Ex-Employee Sues CDK Global for Data Breach

Eugene Buraga, a former employee of a California car dealership, has filed a class action lawsuit against CDK Global LLC, the software provider for the dealership. The lawsuit, filed on June 24, accuses CDK Global of negligence and violations of consumer laws following a data breach that exposed sensitive personal information. Buraga claims that CDK failed to properly secure his data, which includes full names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license details, and financial information.

The data breach, discovered on June 18, has allegedly led to significant harm, including potential financial fraud and identity theft for Buraga and others affected. He asserts that CDK Global’s inadequate data security practices allowed cybercriminals to access this private information. Buraga, who was required to provide his data as part of his employment, argues that he would have been more cautious if he had known about the company’s lax security measures.

Buraga is seeking justice for himself and other individuals whose data was compromised in the breach. His lawsuit demands damages, legal fees, and changes to CDK Global’s data security practices. He also aims to represent a nationwide class of individuals affected by the breach, emphasizing the need for improved data protection measures.

The case highlights broader concerns about data security practices among software providers. It underscores the significant risks associated with data breaches and the importance of safeguarding personal information against unauthorized access. The outcome of this lawsuit could have implications for how companies handle and protect consumer data in the future.
