ENISA’s 2030 Cyber Forecast

The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has compiled a list of the top ten emerging cybersecurity threats expected to shape the digital landscape by 2030. This exhaustive forecast follows an extensive eight-month foresight exercise involving input from various cybersecurity experts and networks within the EU. ENISA’s Executive Director emphasized the necessity of addressing these risks promptly, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to mitigate future threats.

The identified threats span a wide range of areas, highlighting the evolving nature of cybersecurity challenges and their potential impact over the next decade. From supply chain compromises and skill shortages to the exploitation of legacy systems and the rise of digital surveillance authoritarianism, the threats underscore the diverse and complex nature of cybersecurity risks. Furthermore, the forecast warns of advanced disinformation campaigns, hybrid threats blending physical and digital security risks, and the potential abuse of AI technologies for criminal purposes.

ENISA’s foresight analysis serves as a strategic roadmap for policymakers and cybersecurity practitioners to anticipate and counteract emerging threats effectively. By raising awareness and promoting proactive measures among member states and stakeholders, ENISA aims to bolster the EU’s cybersecurity resilience and readiness for future challenges. As the digital landscape evolves rapidly, the agency’s proactive approach emphasizes the importance of continuous vigilance and adaptation to safeguard against evolving threats.
