Empereon Constar Reports Data Incident

Empereon Constar, a business process outsourcing company headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine in late September 2024. The breach was first detected on July 22, 2024, when suspicious activity was identified within the corporate network of one of its partner companies. The partner company launched an investigation, which revealed that files containing potentially sensitive personal information from Empereon Constar’s systems had been accessed by an unauthorized individual around June 30, 2024. The breach involved unauthorized access to files, but the full scope of the exposure has yet to be disclosed publicly.

Following the discovery, Empereon Constar began a comprehensive review of the data to determine which personal information may have been impacted and to identify the individuals whose data was compromised. Although the company has not publicly shared the exact details of the exposed information, the breach could have involved sensitive data such as names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information. According to state reporting guidelines, such personal information can include a range of sensitive data that could potentially lead to identity theft or fraud.

In response to the breach, Empereon Constar initiated a notification process to inform affected individuals. Starting in September 2024, data breach notification letters were sent to those whose personal information may have been accessed. To mitigate the risks associated with the breach, the company is offering complimentary credit monitoring services to affected individuals, allowing them to monitor their personal information for signs of fraud or identity theft. This service aims to help individuals protect themselves from any unauthorized use of their data.

Empereon Constar, founded in 1997, is a prominent provider of outsourced business services. The company offers a range of consumer and commercial services, including customer care, fraud risk management, collections, and loan servicing. With over 4,000 employees and locations across the United States and Mexico, Empereon Constar operates as a privately held entity, formed through the merger of Empereon Marketing and Constar Financial Services. The company continues to serve clients in various industries, offering comprehensive solutions across its network of services.
