Edwards CPA Reports Data Security Breach

Edwards CPA Group P.C. recently informed individuals about a data security incident that may have affected their personal information. The breach occurred between June 2 and June 3, 2024, and was discovered on June 27, 2024. Upon identifying the unauthorized access, Edwards CPA immediately began a thorough investigation with the help of third-party cybersecurity professionals to assess the scope of the incident. While the investigation found no evidence that personal data was removed or misused, the firm is taking proactive steps to notify those affected and offer protection services.

The compromised systems potentially stored sensitive information, including names, addresses, birthdates, and Social Security numbers of impacted individuals. Edwards CPA emphasized that there was no indication that the information was taken or misused. However, as a precautionary measure, the company is providing affected individuals with information on how to protect their personal data and reduce the risk of identity theft. In addition, Edwards CPA is offering complimentary identity theft protection services through IDX, which includes 12 months of credit monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and ID theft recovery services.

To further safeguard client information, Edwards CPA has implemented several security enhancements. These include migrating to a cloud-based tax preparation solution, resetting all system passwords, and switching to a new cybersecurity and IT services provider. The company is also now using 24/7/365 Security Operations Center (SOC) monitoring to ensure continuous surveillance and protection of its systems. These measures are part of Edwards CPA’s commitment to improving data security and preventing future incidents.

Individuals affected by the breach are encouraged to enroll in the free identity protection services offered by IDX. They can also take additional steps outlined in the attached instructions to safeguard their identity, credit, and personal information. For assistance or more information, affected individuals are urged to contact IDX via phone or visit the provided online portal to enroll before the deadline of December 27, 2024. Edwards CPA assures its clients that protecting their personal data remains a top priority.
