Microsoft recently faced a setback with its Edge browser update, version 122.0.2365.63, as users reported encountering frequent “Out of memory” errors while browsing or accessing settings. This prompted the tech giant to swiftly pull the update from circulation. The issue was particularly prevalent among users who had the Enhanced Web Protection feature configured to ‘Strict’ protection, leading to crashes and browsing difficulties.
Users took to various platforms, including Reddit, to express frustration over the sudden errors, with some unable to load any pages due to memory issues. While a workaround involved adjusting the Enhanced Web Protection setting to ‘Basic’ or disabling it altogether, some affected users found themselves unable to access the Settings page to make these changes, exacerbating the problem. Microsoft acknowledged the issue and responded by releasing a new version, 122.0.2365.66, aimed at resolving the memory errors that plagued the previous update.
This incident isn’t the first time such a bug has surfaced, with reports of similar issues among Microsoft Edge Canary users in recent builds. While Microsoft addressed the bug in Canary version 124.0.2434.0, it appears the oversight led to the issue persisting in the Stable channel release. The swift response from Microsoft, pulling the faulty update and releasing a fix, underscores the company’s commitment to resolving issues promptly and ensuring a smooth browsing experience for Edge users.
