Eckell, Sparks, Levy, Auerbach, Monte, Sloane, Matthews & Auslander, P.C. (“Eckell Sparks”) recently informed the Attorney General of Vermont about a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information within its systems may have been accessed. The law firm reported that on November 21, 2023, it became a victim of a ransomware attack, prompting the organization to initiate an investigation to understand the nature and extent of the incident. This proactive response aimed to ascertain whether any unauthorized actors had compromised the data, leading to a thorough review of the affected information.

Through its investigation, Eckell Sparks discovered that sensitive personal information could have been exposed during the attack. This included a range of data elements varying by individual, such as names, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth. The firm recognized the gravity of the situation and committed to identifying the specific individuals whose data might have been impacted. Understanding the potential consequences of such a breach, they prioritized transparency and communication with affected individuals.

In response to the breach, Eckell Sparks commenced mailing notification letters to those impacted on August 19, 2024. These letters served to inform individuals about the breach and the types of personal information that may have been compromised. As part of its efforts to mitigate the impact of the breach and to provide support to affected individuals, Eckell Sparks is offering complimentary identity monitoring services for a period of twelve months.

Eckell Sparks is a law firm based in Pennsylvania, founded in 1964. The firm specializes in various legal services, including personal injury, family law, and business law. With its headquarters in Media, Pennsylvania, and an additional office in West Chester, the firm employs over 20 individuals and continues to focus on providing comprehensive legal support to its clients while addressing the implications of the recent data breach incident.
