Reports reveal that hackers have targeted the studio behind the popular Steam shooter, Ready or Not, stealing millions of files, including the game’s source code and console versions. The breach, which occurred in March, resulted in the theft of approximately 4TB of data, consisting of over 2.1 million files. While the hackers remain unidentified, Insider Gaming discloses details of the breach, indicating that Void Interactive has not reported any security breach or expressed alarm regarding the incident.
According to Insider Gaming, the stolen data encompasses various aspects of Ready or Not, including source code and builds for PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One versions of the game. Additionally, images of Ready or Not being played on a PlayStation 4 test kit were allegedly seen. Despite the breach’s severity, there is no indication that personal information of players or Void Interactive employees has been compromised, with the stolen files primarily related to the game’s technical components.
Ready or Not, known for its gritty atmosphere and intense hostage situations, has garnered a significant player base on Steam since its Early Access launch in 2022. While the breach has raised concerns about the security of intellectual property and the potential impact on game development, the studio continues to reassure players and stakeholders that personal data remains unaffected. Nonetheless, the incident underscores the ongoing challenges posed by cyber threats in the gaming industry and highlights the need for robust security measures to safeguard sensitive information and assets.
