Data Breach at The Hatcher Agency

The Hatcher Agency, based in Little Rock, Arkansas, recently reported a data breach after detecting suspicious activity within its email environment on March 14, 2023. The breach resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to sensitive consumer information, including names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, contact information, dates of birth, health insurance details, and medical information. The agency promptly engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and determine the scope of the data compromise. The breach was confirmed on February 14, 2023, and Hatcher Agency has taken steps to notify affected individuals by sending out data breach notification letters on June 16, 2023.

The investigation is ongoing to assess the extent of the leaked data and identify the impacted consumers. The compromised information varies for each individual, encompassing personal details such as names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, contact information, dates of birth, health insurance information, and medical records. Despite the breach, Hatcher Agency has demonstrated a proactive response by reviewing the affected files and providing timely notifications to affected individuals. The incident underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures in the face of evolving cyber threats.

Founded in 1990, The Hatcher Agency is an employee benefits agency that collaborates with employers to develop comprehensive benefit plans. These plans cover various aspects, including health benefits, dental benefits, short-term and long-term disability, vision care, and more. Additionally, Hatcher Agency partners with prominent health organizations such as Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mercy Health, United Healthcare, and Assurant Health to extend individual benefits to those ineligible for employer plans. With a team of over 55 employees, the agency generates an annual revenue of approximately $26 million, emphasizing the significance of safeguarding consumer information from cyber threats in the digital age.
