CISA has partnered with the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC) to release joint guidance on secure engagement with artificial intelligence (AI) systems. This collaborative effort involves several international cybersecurity organizations, including the FBI, NSA, NCSC-UK, CCCS, NCSC-NZ, BSI, INCD, NISC, NCSC-NO, CSA, and Sweden National Cybersecurity Center. The guidance is designed to assist users of AI systems in understanding and managing AI-related threats, covering issues such as data poisoning, input manipulation, generative AI hallucinations, privacy and intellectual property threats, model stealing, and re-identification of anonymized data. It provides a comprehensive overview of potential risks and offers practical steps to mitigate these risks effectively.

The document emphasizes its relevance to users of AI systems, offering valuable insights to enhance the security posture of organizations and individuals leveraging AI technologies. Addressing a range of threats associated with AI, the guidance aims to raise awareness and provide actionable strategies to counter potential risks. The collaborative effort brings together expertise from various global cybersecurity agencies, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in tackling emerging cybersecurity challenges related to AI. By focusing on user education and risk management, the guidance contributes to fostering a more secure and resilient AI ecosystem.

The involvement of prominent cybersecurity organizations, including the FBI, NSA, and international partners, underscores the global significance of addressing AI-related threats. The guidance not only identifies potential risks but also outlines practical steps to safeguard against data manipulation, privacy breaches, and other AI-specific security concerns. The initiative reflects a concerted effort by international cybersecurity agencies to provide proactive guidance, enabling organizations and users to navigate the complexities of AI security effectively.
