CyberNut, based in Miami, has emerged from stealth mode with a specialized security awareness training platform for K-12 schools. Their focus is on mitigating data breach threats, often originating from phishing attacks initiated by faculty or staff. Using AI and gamification, CyberNut trains teachers, staff, and students to recognize and report phishing attempts effectively, tailored to fit within schools’ operational and budgetary constraints.
Recently securing $800,000 in pre-seed funding from investors like Charter School Growth Fund and Avalanche VC, CyberNut has already begun collaborating with 50 school districts. Early results indicate improved awareness and response among users in identifying suspicious emails. CEO Oliver Page emphasizes the significant risks posed by data breaches in educational settings, highlighting both financial and psychological impacts on students.
CyberNut’s approach innovatively integrates gamification into cybersecurity training, transforming it into an engaging and empowering experience. This strategy aims to enhance digital safety within the K-12 sector, crucial as educational institutions remain prime targets for cyber threats, including ransomware. Recognizing this, CyberNut aligns with efforts by cybersecurity agencies like CISA to fortify K-12 cybersecurity nationwide.
