Cyberattack Exposes Yverdon-les-Bains Data

The Energy Service of the City of Yverdon-les-Bains announced that one of its external service providers had fallen victim to a cyberattack, leading to the exposure of an online database. This attack potentially compromised the personal data of nearly 12,300 subscribers, including their contact and billing information. The City responded promptly by taking security measures and individually informing the affected persons by mail.

The computer systems of the City of Yverdon-les-Bains were not affected by this attack. However, this incident highlights the vulnerability of the computer systems used by external service providers and the need to strengthen cybersecurity measures. The City reminds citizens to be vigilant against suspicious emails, SMS, or phone calls, and recommends always verifying the authenticity of messages using the official contact details of the senders.

The risks associated with this data breach include phishing, phone scams, online account hacking, and identity theft. To protect themselves, it is advised to never disclose sensitive information via messaging or phone, verify links before clicking, use complex and different passwords for each account, and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible. The City also encourages citizens to report any phishing attempts or suspicious behavior to the competent authorities.

By following these recommendations, citizens can reduce the risks of compromising their personal data and protect themselves against cybercriminals.
