Cyber Threat Averted by UN Women

UN Women Australia, a nonprofit dedicated to women’s rights, recently faced a significant cyber threat involving bot-driven banking identification number (BIN) attacks. These attacks aimed to exploit vulnerabilities in third-party payment services, potentially leading to fraudulent transactions and financial losses. Despite limited resources, UN Women Australia sought assistance from Cloudflare’s Project Galileo initiative to bolster its cybersecurity defenses.

Cloudflare quickly became the organization’s trusted cybersecurity advisor, conducting a thorough analysis of its technical infrastructure and recommending solutions to mitigate future attacks. With Cloudflare’s guidance, UN Women Australia implemented a more secure payment gateway and integrated Turnstile, Cloudflare’s smart CAPTCHA alternative, to enhance its security measures. Cloudflare’s application security solutions, including DDoS Protection and Bot Management, were also deployed to autonomously identify and mitigate threats, ensuring continuous protection against potential cyber-attacks.

The backbone of Cloudflare’s security measures is its Web Application Firewall (WAF), which provides autonomous, layered defenses and allows UN Women Australia to create custom rules to thwart advanced attacks. As a result of Cloudflare’s involvement, UN Women Australia now feels less vulnerable about website security, allowing them to refocus on their core mission of empowering and protecting women. Cloudflare’s timely and effective support has been instrumental in mitigating the impact of cyber threats on UN Women Australia’s operations, underscoring the importance of partnerships in combating cyber threats faced by vulnerable organizations.
