Cyber Attack Hits News Portals

Rheinische Post media group experienced a cyber attack causing disruptions in online news portals, including Rheinische Post, Saarbrücker Zeitung, Aachener Zeitung, and others. Circ IT, the in-house IT service provider, faced technical issues after a supply chain attack on Friday evening. While some portals display a general disruption message, efforts are underway to restore services. The company assures that no user data has been accessed, and external IT security experts are collaborating to ensure a secure return to operations.

Multiple online news portals belonging to the Rheinische Post media group suffered extensive disruptions following a cyber attack by Circ IT. The affected websites include Rheinische Post, Saarbrücker Zeitung, Aachener Zeitung, Generalanzeiger Bonn, Trierische Volksfreunds, and Wuppertaler Rundschau. Circ IT, the in-house IT service provider, fell victim to a supply chain attack, paralyzing the news portals. While users encounter disruption messages, the media group is actively working with external IT security experts to address the technical problems and resume normal services.

The cyber attack on Rheinische Post media group led to technical malfunctions at Circ IT, impacting online portals and print editions. The disruption affected publications like “Trierische Volksfreund,” “Rheinische Post,” “Generalanzeiger Bonn,” and “Aachener Nachrichten,” which were released as emergency editions with 28 pages. No reported damage beyond revenue loss has occurred, and user data remains secure. Rheinische Post media group is collaborating with external security experts to ensure a secure recovery and return to normal operations.

Despite facing a cyber attack, Rheinische Post media group asserts that no user data has been stolen during the incident. The disruption led to limited access to online news portals, prompting emergency editions with reduced content. The media group is actively engaged in resolving the technical malfunctions and has sought assistance from external IT security experts to ensure a swift and secure restoration of services.
