CU Student Choice Data Breach Alert

CU Student Choice Partners, LLC, a service provider to a credit union, discovered a security breach on May 7, 2024, which may have exposed personal information of credit union members. The affected data included personally identifiable information such as names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, loan account numbers, and Social Security numbers. However, there is no evidence that any of this information has been misused.

CU Student Choice has taken immediate steps to enhance data security practices to prevent future incidents. As a precaution, they are offering affected individuals access to Single Bureau Credit Monitoring services, including credit reports and scores, for eighteen months at no charge. This service provides alerts for any changes in credit files and includes proactive fraud assistance through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.

To access these services, individuals are instructed to enroll online using a unique code provided in the notification letter. Enrollment must be completed within 90 days of receiving the letter, and the process requires an internet connection and an email account. This service may not be available to minors under 18 years old.

CU Student Choice encourages affected individuals to monitor their credit reports and account statements for any suspicious activity over the next 12 to 24 months. They also provide information on obtaining free credit reports, placing fraud alerts, and security freezes on credit files. For additional support, individuals can contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for advice on protecting against identity theft and filing police reports if necessary.
