Cox Law Group Suffers Breach Exposing Data

Cox Law Group has informed its clients about a cybersecurity incident that potentially exposed personal information. The incident, which was detected on or around September 18, 2024, prompted immediate action by the firm to secure its systems. Cox Law Group engaged outside cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach and confirm the integrity of their systems. Despite the disruption, the firm emphasized that its ability to provide legal services has not been impacted, and efforts to protect clients’ information have been a top priority.

During their investigation, Cox Law Group identified that personal data, such as names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, driver’s license details, financial information, and in some cases, Social Security numbers, may have been accessed. While there is no evidence to suggest that any of this information has been used for malicious purposes, the firm is taking proactive steps to mitigate any potential risks for clients. In light of this, Cox Law Group is offering free identity monitoring services to affected individuals.

The identity monitoring services provided by the firm will be managed through Kroll, a leading global provider of risk mitigation services. Clients will receive a range of services, including credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration. These services will be offered at no cost for an extended period, ensuring that clients have the support needed to manage any potential impacts from the breach. Details on how to activate these services have been shared with affected individuals.

To further address concerns, Cox Law Group has contacted and is cooperating with law enforcement, including the Virginia State Police’s Virginia Fusion Center, to investigate the incident. The firm takes the privacy and security of its clients seriously and continues to prioritize efforts to strengthen its cybersecurity measures. While the firm acknowledges the potential anxiety caused by the breach, it reassures clients that their information remains a top priority and that steps are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
