Congoleum, a New Jersey-based flooring manufacturer, reported a data breach to the Attorney General of Maine after discovering unauthorized activity in its digital environment. The breach was detected on June 30, 2024, and an investigation was immediately launched to assess the nature of the incident. Through this investigation, Congoleum learned that sensitive personal information may have been accessed or acquired by an unauthorized party. The company undertook a thorough review of the affected data to identify the specific individuals impacted.

The data review, completed on July 30, 2024, revealed that the type of information potentially exposed includes individuals’ names and Social Security numbers. While the extent of the breach varied based on the individual, Congoleum took steps to notify those affected. On August 7, 2024, the company began sending out data breach notification letters to all impacted individuals, outlining the specific types of information involved in each case.

In response to the breach, Congoleum offered affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring services to help protect against potential misuse of their personal information. The company is also taking additional security measures to prevent future breaches and safeguard the sensitive information within its network. These efforts are aimed at restoring trust and providing reassurance to both customers and employees whose information may have been compromised.

Congoleum is a well-established company founded in 1886, known for its industry-leading innovations in flooring technology. Headquartered in Mercerville, New Jersey, the company operates manufacturing plants in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, employing over 500 individuals. The breach, while a significant incident, has prompted the company to further strengthen its digital security protocols to protect sensitive data moving forward.
