City of Port Phillip Addresses Data Breach

The City of Port Phillip, in Australia, has encountered a data breach involving OracleCMS, affecting around 1300 contacts. The compromised data includes customer name, address, phone number, and email, primarily from customers who called the City of Port Phillip after hours in 2016 and 2017. Efforts are underway to review the breached data and directly notify affected customers while providing tailored advice and support.

While the investigation into the breach is ongoing, City of Port Phillip confirms that their systems were not compromised by the attack on OracleCMS. However, OracleCMS has yet to confirm that no customer Personal Identifiable Information (PII) has been accessed. In response, the City of Port Phillip emphasizes their commitment to privacy and customer security, pledging to take all necessary steps to address any potential impact on their customers.

To ensure cyber safety, City of Port Phillip advises customers to be vigilant against scams, avoid sharing personal information, verify web addresses, enable multi-factor authentication, maintain updated antivirus software, and use strong passwords. They also direct customers to follow guidance from the Victorian Government on data breach recovery. Additionally, they encourage staying informed about the investigation’s progress through their website and accessing resources provided by the Australian Cyber Security Centre for further guidance on cybersecurity.
