The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has announced its plans to enhance the Logging Made Easy (LME) tool, an open-source log management solution for Windows-based devices originally developed and maintained by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre.
Additionally, the LME tool reduces log management burden and provides greater transparency into operating system and network security across deployed devices.
NCSC-UK stopped supporting the tool on March 31, 2023, and CISA will launch an enhanced version of the tool for public and private sector stakeholders in the summer.
Furthermore, with CISA’s announcement, organizations using the unsupported version of the LME tool are urged to exercise caution. LME provides an effective means of managing and analyzing system and network logs across Windows devices, offering a range of automated functions that help security professionals identify and analyze cybersecurity threats.
The tool is designed to reduce the time and resources needed to maintain logs, streamlining log management tasks and improving security posture.
At the same time, CISA’s decision to continue developing and enhancing the LME tool reflects the ongoing need for effective log management solutions in today’s evolving cybersecurity landscape.
As cybersecurity threats become increasingly sophisticated and numerous, organizations must be able to track and analyze events across their IT infrastructure in real-time.
