Jeff Greene, a seasoned figure in digital security and a former White House official, has been chosen to fill a prominent position at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), according to multiple sources familiar with the decision. Greene, who previously served as the chief of cyber response and policy at the National Security Council’s Cyber Directorate and as a director at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will succeed Eric Goldstein as the executive assistant director for cybersecurity at CISA.
Goldstein, who has been a notable public figure at CISA, announced his departure for the private sector last week. While CISA has confirmed Greene’s recruitment, they have not officially stated that he will replace Goldstein, only mentioning that he will serve as a senior advisor starting in early June.
With a distinguished career spanning both the private sector and government, Greene brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He currently holds the position of senior director for cybersecurity programs at Aspen Digital and previously served as a vice president at cybersecurity firm Symantec. Greene’s government experience includes work with the House and Senate Homeland Security committees and as counsel to the Senate’s special investigation into Hurricane Katrina.
Vivian Schiller, executive director of the Aspen Digital program at the Aspen Institute, praised Greene’s leadership in cybersecurity programs and expressed pride in his decision to serve the country during a critical period.
CISA’s significance has grown significantly in recent years amidst the increasing prominence of cybersecurity issues across various sectors. The agency is preparing for the implementation of a new incident reporting law, highlighting the importance of strong leadership in tackling cyber threats.
