Cross Catholic Outreach, Inc. (CCO) recently disclosed a data breach involving personal information. The incident, identified in mid-April 2024, revealed suspicious activity within their network. By April 14 and 17, unauthorized access to certain files was detected, which were later confirmed to contain HR records, including sensitive data such as names, Social Security numbers, and financial information.
Following the breach, CCO took immediate action to secure their systems and started an investigation into the extent of the data exposure. On April 23, it was confirmed that personal information of individuals, including those from Maine, was among the compromised data. The company also notified federal law enforcement and is enhancing security measures to prevent future incidents.
In response, CCO is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring services and has provided detailed steps on how to protect against identity theft. The company encourages those impacted to remain vigilant, monitor their credit reports, and review their account statements for any suspicious activity.
Additionally, CCO will be sending written notices to those affected, including one Maine resident, around June 3, 2024. They are also advising on placing fraud alerts, freezing credit files, and reporting any fraudulent activities to the relevant authorities. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover more details and mitigate any further risks.
