Broadcom Merges Carbon Black and Symantec

Broadcom, a leading technology company, has announced the merger of Carbon Black and Symantec businesses to create a new unit dedicated to integrating network and data telemetry with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) technologies. This strategic move comes on the heels of Broadcom’s $69 billion acquisition of VMware, which owned Carbon Black, as part of its broader efforts to bolster its cybersecurity portfolio.

The newly formed Enterprise Security Group within Broadcom will oversee the integration process, aiming to leverage the strengths of both Carbon Black and Symantec’s cybersecurity solutions. Rob Greer, Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Security Group, emphasized the importance of combining network and data telemetry to provide greater visibility and control for customers.

Despite the merger, Greer reassured that the Symantec and Carbon Black product portfolios will continue to operate independently in the immediate future. This approach ensures continuity for customers while allowing Broadcom to invest in research and development to enhance existing products and extend their capabilities across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments.

With Symantec’s data center security products complementing Carbon Black’s offerings, the merger is expected to provide customers with comprehensive cybersecurity solutions to protect their infrastructures. The consolidation reflects Broadcom’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric strategies in the cybersecurity domain, positioning the company for continued growth and success in the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.
