BreachForums Seized Again by FBI

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have successfully seized control of the BreachForums platform for the second time within a year, putting an end to its operations as an online marketplace for stolen data. This collaborative effort involved authorities from several countries, including Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the U.K., the U.S., and Ukraine. The seizure not only affected the BreachForums website but also led to the FBI taking control of the associated Telegram channel, formerly administered by Baphomet.

With the BreachForums platform now under law enforcement control, the FBI has urged users to report any instances of cyber criminal activity they encounter. This move signifies a significant blow to cybercriminals who utilized BreachForums for illicit activities, including trading stolen access devices, identification, hacking tools, breached databases, and other illegal services. The seizure of BreachForums marks another chapter in law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and disrupt online criminal networks.

The shutdown of BreachForums follows its prior seizure in June 2023 and its subsequent resurgence under new administration. The forum’s history dates back to March 2022 when it emerged following the dismantling of RaidForums and the arrest of its owner, Omnipotent. Despite law enforcement’s actions, cybercriminals have repeatedly attempted to revive BreachForums, highlighting the challenges authorities face in combating online criminal activity. The FBI’s continued vigilance and international collaboration are crucial in disrupting cybercrime networks and safeguarding individuals’ data and online security.
